Corrine Schwarting grew up in Eastern Iowa, near the Iowa river and on land cared for by several Indigenous nations including the Meskwaki, Sauk, and Báxoje, nations. This land was later cared for by settlers from Germany seeking religious freedom and remains a historic site within the state today. I feel so grateful to have gotten to know this land by watching sunsets, greeting spring wildflowers, and playing outside.

 

My undergraduate and graduate studies mainly focused on adult mental health, people’s family of origin (the family they grew up in), substance use, queer and gender affirming care, grief and loss, supporting caregivers, religious exploration, ecological changes, and using somatic exercises within talk therapy. Phew! All of this together informs how I see the world and mirrors how I see health of greater systems (i.e., the environment, our families, schools and jobs we give our efforts to) as related to our own health and daily habits. 

 

Now in Colorado, I am planting roots, literally and metaphorically, to build a private practice informed by this primary idea: healing can occur in many places and with many people by our side. As we explore different places with one another, a new understanding of ourselves can be unearthed.
